F R I E N D S
his year, the
Better Homes
and Gardens
team has some
extraordinary things to be
thankful for. As Thanksgiving
draws near, I’d like to express
our gratitude for them.
•
Gifts oflife.
In one
miraculous
24
-hour period last February, two
members of our team received life-saving organ
transplants. Thanks to the generosity of a donor
or donors we’ll never know, Editorial Assistant
Peggy Daugherty and Advertising Operations
Manager April Gross have returned to their
families, their careers, and better health. We are
so grateful that April and Peggy are among an
estimated
28,000
people in the United States
who will receive transplants this year. More than
100,000
are waiting. Donors of all ages are
needed
(organdonor.gov).
•Our own baby boomlet.
This year, we
welcomed four healthy, beautiful babies born to
staff members: Blaise Griffin Ford, Catherine
Ryan Fischer, Paige Michelle Panos, and Ezra
Samuel Goldstein. As a magazine that focuses on
home and family, we love seeing ours grow—and
we never forget what matters most.
•Forgiving back.
This year, three of our
coworkers—Dana Guigli, Diana Willits, and
Karen Chiovaro—
teamed up to develop a
mail-order Memory Garden that raises funds for
Alzheimer’s research. Sadly, Karen lost her own
battle with breast cancer in August, but her
memory lives in these gardens and the funding
they bring for fighting Alzheimer’s. A Memory
Garden makes a wonderful holiday gift,
especially for those whose lives have been
touched. See

for details.
And of course, we’re grateful for the opportu-
nity to be part of your homes and lives—and I wish
you a wonderful holiday with those you love. In
joyful times and hard ones, practicing gratitude
helps us appreciate the everyday good in our lives.
How do you make gratitude a part of your life?
